Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Does the PuriFresh® Clean Room perform any heat or moisture recovery?
No it does not.  In winter, you will need an electric heater and a humidifier in the room.  In summer, you will need a window-mounted air-conditioner in the room.
  2. What is true HEPA filtration?
In true HEPA filtration, 99.97% of all particles 0.3 microns in size are removed from the air. This is verified by tests using a standard 0.3 micron DOP smoke.
  3. What level of HEPA filtration is achieved by the PuriFresh® Clean Room?
    It delivers true HEPA filtration.
  4. How does the PuriFresh® Clean Room differ from the PuriFresh® Heat Recovery Ventilator and HEPA Filter?

As discussed in Question 1, above, the PuriFresh® Clean Room does not perform heat or moisture recovery.  It does positively pressurize the room with true HEPA filtered air while the PuriFresh® HRV/ HEPA Filter does not. The HEPA filter on the Clean Room is a single-pass true-HEPA filter.  The HEPA filters on the PuriFresh® HRV/ HEPA Filter are not single pass.  You can expect a very small amount of outside air to bypass the true-HEPA filter medium and enter the room unfiltered.

  1. How long does the HEPA filter last?
The HEPA filter should last for years.
  2. What is the HEPA filter medium made of?
The filter medium is a microscopic fiberglass mat. While it looks like paper, it is not a wood product. It is not damaged by moisture.
  3. Why not just buy a cheaper console HEPA filter and keep the door and widows closed to my room?
If you do that, the room will not receive required ventilation. The American Lung Association (ALA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) all recommend ventilation to improve indoor air quality (IAQ).  Even with windows and doors closed, there will be some infiltration of air from the outside and from other parts of the house.  The PuriFresh® Clean Room reverses that infiltration with HEPA filtered air.
  4. Why not just buy a cheaper console HEPA filter and keep a widow open a bit?
This will provide fresh air. The fresh air will enter loaded with particles which will disburse throughout the room before they enter the console HEPA filter. The console HEPA filter will have to clean out these particles after they have entered. Since these particles are continually entering, the air can never be completely cleaned. The PuriFresh® Clean Room cleans the particles out of the fresh air before it enters the room.
  5. Why do I need ventilation?
Air pollution from volatile compounds is much higher indoors. These volatile compounds include radon gas, formaldehyde, solvents from cleaning supplies and beauty supplies, organic compounds emitted by carpets, furniture, paint, insulation, linoleum, vinyl, electronic equipment, etc.
  6. Why do I need filtration?
Unlike volatile air pollution, which is much higher indoors, particulate concentrations are much higher outdoors. Hence, scrubbing virtually all particles from the outside air, which the PuriFresh® Clean Room does, is very important for healthy indoor air, especially for allergy and asthma suffers.
